President of Swansea Rotary Club, Andrew Bellamy donates a cheque for £750

At a recent (June 2011) meeting members of the Rotary Club of Swansea heard from Stella Elliott and David Laws of the links established between the Eye Department of Singleton Hospital, Swansea and the Regional Eye Care Centre in Banjul, Gambia.

As a result the outgoing President of Swansea Rotary Club, Andrew Bellamy, decided to donate a cheque for £750 to help fund training for an Optometry Technician in Gambia. This would be the first post of this kind in the Gambia, and the funding provided would be matched by a similar contribution from the local Rotary Club in Banjul.

The money will be used to continue to fund the ongoing programme of education at the Sheikh Zahed Regional Eye Care Centre.
