For MANY years i taught children with partial sight in this country and from 1960 …64 taught at a brilliant school in Coventry.Following this I went out to Nigeria where for three years I lived and experienced the delights and difficulties of living in West Africa …..a wondrous experience that leaves an indelible mark and with many wonderful African friends. In older age [and continuing my links with people who had limited sight]I eventually became one myself and have had both eyes operated on for cataracts.I even appeared briefly as a sample in The Lancet. !!
So your brilliant and detailed Blog brought back such vivid memories ….especially of first and lasting memories of wonderful people I have met and worked with and will never forget.Thank you and well done Rhys.
I walked with you through the technical parts and the personal details and laughed and cried with the references to spare parts and breakdowns and new equipment and the need of training.Well done you and all the team from Swansea for seeing this need and responding so readily. Crystal

I am an ophthalmic theatre sister at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. I am going to Zambia as part of a team including three consultant ophthalmologists and an orthoptist. We are hoping to establish a productive and happy link with a hospital in Kitwe. Have you any advice to offer me? I am unsure of what to expect or of how my visit can be productive for them and us. Can I prepare in any way so as to get the most out of the visit?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Alice
Looking forward to your reply.
