The Gambia – Swansea Vision 2020 Eye Link

The fourth charity quiz in aid of The Gambia Swansea Vision 2020 Link was held on Saturday 6th April at the Vivian Hall, Blackpill. This popular venue has been the location for the previous three quizes and is always well supported by friends of the link. 81 people attended this year divided into 9 teams. The questions were provided as always by Andrew Martin who continued his theme of wearing something unusual by sporting a topical “crossword tie” and dinner jacket. There were 6 rounds each with a cryptic title so there was no guessing the content e.g. Stratford Johns the actor meant the theme was Olympics as Stratford was where they were held in 2012. Each team could play their joker on their chosen round which doubled their score.

After three rounds there was a welcome rest for contestants to enjoy a ploughman’s meal of pate, cheese, pickled onions and delicious bread and also to top up their drinks from the in-house bar. There followed a quick game of heads and tails before continuing with round four.

At the end of the quiz the raffle was drawn before announcing the winners which this year were the “Quietly Quaint Quiz Queens” with a respectable score of 51. After collecting their prize of a hamper of food and drink the second prize of a box of chocolates was given to the “Bluebirds”. The booby prize for coming last was given to “Cool Runningz” who were delighted with their plastic sunglasses. Lastly, the recipients of a bottle of home made apple juice for the most original team name went to Tinky Winky’s Stinky Winky.

Overall the evening was a great success raising £912 for the link. Thanks were given to all those who helped in the preparations and donated gifts and food.
